A site specific audiovisual installation that explores the realm of unperceivable seismic activity.
"[0.1-30]Hz STRATA" is a site specific audiovisual installation that explores the realm of unperceivable seismic activity. By utilizing real-time data from online geological databases and on-site custom-made seismometers, the installation tracks and visualizes underground movements around a marble quarry in Carrara, Italy.
A dynamic laser projection is mapped onto the extraction site, establishing an interconnected relationship between opposing scales: the vast macro scale of the quarry and the subtle micro scale of constant seismic activity. Through this juxtaposition, the site specific work prompts reflection on the complex interplay between human actions and the fragile equilibrium of the natural environment.
The artwork conveys an abstract visual representation reminiscent of the intricate patterns found in the flow of veins and the circulation of lymphatic systems. Additionally, the generated soundscape draws inspiration from the phenomenon of granular synthesis, creating an immersive sonic experience that mirrors the fragmented nature of seismic movements.
For Vox Marmoris festival, the interactive piece will engage in a collaborative performance with local excavation machines, generating an original audiovisual composition reacting to the common daily activity of the working site.
Ephemeral Tomorrow is a Berlin based new media art collective composed by Riccardo Torresi, Maxime Lethelier and Asako Fujimoto. The group focuses on the interconnection between art science and technology, having a common fascination for the universe and space exploration, their works reflect the aspects of remote sensing apparatuses through the aesthetics of light and sound.
